The 'Pavis and the Big Rubble Companion' Fanzine Series

The Official Publications

A Man(?) For All Seasons

What and Who was this Fanzine?

"What's New?": At various times, errata, extra articles, and out of print articles will continue to be posted. Log in to the web robot notifier (we have a new one at last) at the base of the What's New? page in order to be alerted whenever anything is added. As default for these fanzine related articles I will use pdf format, zipped. Acrobat Reader is available as a free download at: www.acrobat.com, and Winzip is available as a free download at www.winzip.com. NB: If your Acrobat Reader is not at least Version 4 or 5 you might be unable to view some of the files - so its worth downloading the new V5 from acrobat.com.

Pavis Keywords has won a place in Glorantha Trading Association's annual honors for creative efforts built on the world of Glorantha
Many of the HW keywords in Masks of Pavis were developed at the request of Issaries, Inc. (and with the assistance of Steve and Greg) - because of Multisim's "Hero Wars: Pavis" requiring official Pavis HW details. As well as being published in Masks of Pavis, they are available at: www.glorantha.com/hw/tribe_pavis.html [tribe_pavis.html]. As a companion piece to this official material, several of the subcults and hero cults from the P&BR Companion Series have now been collected into a pdf file.

OOP Zines Available

Volume 6: Various factors precluded the production of a sixth volume,. But if you have all or most of the other zines and wondered where my House Campaign was going to end up, I have two sets of campaign notes which can be tacked on. (The last is still being played out here in Melbourne.) If you already have two bonus sets of campaign notes and are wondering "are these the same ones?", yes they are. If not and you want to finish running the campaign mail me (pelgrane@yahoo.com.au) with the subject 'Campaign Notes' and ask for them.

Tradetalk Special Editions

I was fortunate to be assistant editor (and author of several articles) for the 'Pavis and the Big Rubble' special editions of the magazine Tradetalk. I personally regard these two issues as being as much a part of the Pavis and Big Rubble Companion series as they are part of the Tradetalk series. Tradetalk 9 especially - as it provided a home for several pieces that were originally begun with the intention that they see publication in the 'Legacy of Pavis'.

Getting a Copy: The fanzines themselves (those still in print) and issues of Tradetalk are available from the Tradetalk people, and are well worth buying to complete your collection of easily available Pavic information (including new scenarios and scenario outlines).

Tradetalk 8 (P&BR Special: Part 1)
P&BR Companion. Vol 2A

Tradetalk 9 (P&BR Special: Part 2)
P&BR Companion. Vol 3A

Other Bits and Pieces

Color versions of some of the super Companion maps (all by Paul Sommer [unless otherwise stated], from originals by Ian Thomson): Pavis County [John Hughes],  Badside, Blind King's Hill, Devil's Playground, Opili's Fort, Stockade Town
Treasure Trove Hurbi has some downloadable treasure maps on Oliver Dickinson's site.
HeroQuest House Rules as zipped pdf.
The cool picture of a Vingan on the Pavis Road (from John Hughes' site)
Gregory Privat's colorful pictures of Praxian miniatures
The 'Preparation of Issaries' ritual from Bruce Ferrie's page
Mike Dawson's 'Old Pavis' Campaign
Not very Pavisy, but the old Geo's map of Sartar is back on site
Here are the errata for the Krang's Table HW adaptation that was published in TT8

Other Plans and Publications

From time to time other Pavis things will sneak into other publications, such as the 'Urnfields of Pavis County' and 'The Man who Walked with Pavis' in The Unspoken Word's (Ed: Mark Gaelotti) Four Scrolls of Revelation convention booklet for Convulsions 2002. Much to my happy surprise, 'The Man who Walked with Pavis' received the award for the best of Gloranthan Short Fiction 2002.

The Pavis & Big Rubble Companion series has drawn to a close with the completion of Vol. 5 , since I no longer have the time to co-ordinate and write. Even with the help of many volunteers (without whom the series would not have been possible at all) I still ended up doing most of the work. This was largely a joy (otherwise I wouldn't have done it), but with the gradual increase in professional writing work continuing has become impossible. I can still be contacted at ian_thomson555@hotmail.com or (more often these days) at S3023755@student.rmit.edu.au. If you have ideas for articles you might write, drop me a line, and I'll be happy to put them on site if they are original pieces.

Not Glorantha
Pulp Call of Cthulhu - An old piece of work that I recently rediscovered and dusted off. If any fanzine wants to publish it I'd be happy to revise extensively and expand if required. Basically it is a 12 page document on how to adapt 1880s/90s & 1920s Call of Cthulhu into a more mystical and slightly less fatalistic (but nonetheless still horrifying and dark) system. PCs are something more than human, in the manner of Doc Savage, Indiana Jones, the stars of the 'Mummy' movies, or other action novel/movie heroes.

See my general main page for my House Rules (and adapted cheracter sheet) for Pelgrane Press' superb Dying Earth RPG (based on Jack Vance's classic fantasy series).
