The 'Pavis and the Big Rubble Companion' Overview

This whole project is based on a personal fascination with Chaosium's original boxed set material, and initiated by the publication of the 'Pavis and Big Rubble' book by Moon Design in 1999. (There is also a May 2001 limited republication.) The fanzine work began as a RQ2 style collection of material to fill in some of the many gaps in the original material (eg missing depth on the hidden sides of the Pavis and Flintnail Cults, and lack of detail on many of the Rubble locations). Then 'Hero Wars' arrived right in the middle of it all, and thus added to the already 'interesting' blend of RQ2 and 3 ideas. Consequently the Volumes were planned to be more and more angling towards Hero Wars as they progress: for instance the cults in Vol. 1 are RQ3 and the cults in Vol. 2 are mainly Hero Wars. Vols 3 and onwards are Hero Wars only.

The scenarios in Vol. 2 have rules suggestions for both RQ3 and Hero Wars, though were originally devised in the style of RQ2. Things will settle in Vol. 3, when Hero Wars will be adopted as the standard rules system. (Since hopefully any RQ3 old-timers such as myself can convert back with relative ease, and newcomers won't be blasted by confusing double rule systems.) RQ3 statistics suggestions will be included as long as someone like Simon Scott so wonderfully takes the time to do them.

This is far from a one-man project, with many wonderful folk having added much of their own slant. Please feel free to make constructive suggestions and criticisms. In particular I look along the list of authors, and as pleasing as it is to see my name again and again and again, for the Fanzine series to have a future this must stop. I urge, nay beg, people to step forward as authors and even co-authors. Vol 5 is underway and although the contents list is pretty solid, many many tasks require the hard slog of actually putting fingers to keyboard. I simply don't have the time, and would love to see an authors' listing against the articles where my name was swamped by the other contributors.
